Focus On : Design Analysis Software

The advance of design analysis software probably represents the single greatest change in the world of the design engineer over the last few decades. Computer Aided Design (CAD) software has come a long way from the days when 2D sketching software was all that was on offer. Now, with full 3D and parametric design software available, the user can undertake previously unimaginable levels of design analysis.

But the role of design analysis software is not limited to the arena of industrial design. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Lifecycle Management systems are all major contributory factors in optimising the design process.

Eureka’s approach is to look at all aspects of industrial design software to bring its readers all the latest developments in this key field.

Andy Green’s Bloodhound Project diary

The thing about setting a land speed record is that speeding up is only half of the problem. Once you've gone flashing through the timing lights of the measured mile at over 1000mph you are faced with stopping a heavy, very high speed vehicle in a limited distance (about 5½ miles on our chosen track on Hakskeen Pan in South Africa). 5½ miles sounds like a long way, but if you're doing a mile every 3½ seconds, it doesn't seem that far at all!
