Protecting the bump with two loops

A simple arrangement consisting of a seat pad with two webbing loops ensures that the lap section of a seat belt worn by a pregnant woman resides beneath the pregnancy bump and cannot ride up over the abdomen. In the event of an accident or emergency stop, provided that the device is correctly fitted, the lap belt puts pressure on the hips and pelvis so that that part of the body absorbs any impact instead of the womb.
Available from Clippasafe in Nottingham for £19.99, the "Bump Belt" should do much to reduce the risk of miscarriage resulting from a car accident. Roger Cheetham, managing director of Clippasafe, explained that: “When a pregnant mother is a driver or passenger, they may be putting their baby at serious risk. A conventional seatbelt sits right across the woman’s bump, which in the event of a high-impact collision could be incredibly harmful for the baby indeed. As pregnancy progresses a conventional seatbelt can also become very uncomfortable. As a result, many pregnant women choose not to wear one at all, which is illegal and very dangerous. “We’re urging fathers and husbands to make sure their partner always wears a seatbelt and Bump Belt in the car, no matter how long the journey is.”
