USBCells, designed by London based Moixa Energy, have been chosen to be included in the gift bag for the 2007 Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative held on New York from September 26th 2007.
To recharge one of these cells, which look at first sight like ordinary AA batteries, except for their green caps, the user just has to pop off the cap and insert it into any USB port, without the need for a separate battery charger.
Moixa Energy Holdings, founded by innovators Simon Daniel and Chris Wright is a spin out from Moixa, which pioneers advanced portable devices and interfaces. Moixa Energy is backed by the London Development Agency.
The company estimates that if used to replace non-rechargeable alkaline batteries, each single NiMH based USBCell saves 7kg of CO2 and avoids the dumping of 3kg of toxic waste.
