Professor Paul Shore, director of Cranfield University’s Precision Engineering Centre, has been confirmed as a speaker at the forthcoming Linear Motion Masterclass 2008 – the latest in Eureka’s series of Design Day.
Prof Shore will explain how high precision linear motion is a critical factor in the BoX (Big OptiX) machine, an ultra-precision free form grinding and measuring machine that is used to produce optical parts for telescopes
There will also be a presentation from Philips Applied Technologies, which has developed a number of linear motion technologies – ranging from a magnetic levitation device to a linear motor that moves in two axes. The research was led by Dr Georgo Angelis.
Event sponsors are Aerotech (linear motors), Igus (bearings), Renishaw (encoders) and Steinmeyer (ballscrews).
Each will help delegates to understand key aspects of linear motion technology through short technical presentations, hands-on training workshops and consultancy sessions.
The event takes place at the Kaetsu Centre in Cambridge on 18 March 2008.
Early bird places are still available at £95. Contact Kerry Wilkins for details
