Philips confirms speaker at Design Day 11/02/2008

design day, linear motion, nforcer, two axes Philips Applied Technology has confirmed that Dr Georgo Angelis will present its paper at the forthcoming ‘Linear Motion Masterclass’.

The event, the latest in Eureka’s series of Design Days, mixes technical presentations with hands-on workshops to help design engineers understand the latest technologies within linear motion.

Dr Angelis, senior scientist at the company, led the research into the technology, called Nforcer. It uses a new design – in which conducting coils between two rows of magnets extend further into the magnetic field – to allow linear motion in two axes simultaneously.

Two axes of motion are then delivered from a single set of linear motor hardware and control electronics – leading to smaller, faster-moving machines.

Other speakers include Prof Paul Shore of Cranfield University, as well as event sponsors Aerotech, Igus, Renishaw and Steinmeyer.

The event takes place in Cambridge on 18 March 2008. For more details, and to book places, click here
