Quaife has brought out a motorsport gearbox, based on the long popular Sierra box, that handles a lot more power and totally prevents missing gears or making wrong selections
 .
Michael Quaife told us that the new box, is a, “Direct replacement for the Sierra gearbox”, so that all the external dimensions are the same, but it has bigger shaft centres, allowing it to handle 400 BHP and 400 lb-feet (542Nm) of torque.
The gearbox is a six speed sequential, with a ratchet plate mechanism that is extremely robust. This totally prevents bad gear selection.
Having played with a sample gearbox, we were then treated to demonstration drives in Quaife equipped cars at the Rockingham Speedway, first in a Caterham, and then in a Ginetta, in the expert hands of Stewart Linn, who is currently joint leader of the GT4 class in the British GT championship. What we noticed is that the box allowed smooth gear changes under full acceleration or deceleration, regardless of whether the drivers used the clutch.
The box is available with either straight cut or helical gears
