Green motorbikes to race TT

Biker and founder of the competition, Azhar Hussain, told us at a promotional event that 46 teams are now registered, and the Isle of Man government has already committed itself to events in 2010 and 2011. The present teams are all described as, “Major companies but not currently in the automotive space”.

The course, which has been raced on since 1904, is 37.73 miles long, climbs from sea level to 422m, and includes more than 200 bends, a number of which are named after riders who have crashed there. Because of the challenging nature of the circuit, Hussain insists that, “All riders will have to be professionally qualified race riders”. The idea is to come up with motorcycles that are at least as exciting to ride as conventional performance machines, but are completely ‘green’ as regards pollutants, and whose technologies may also be transferred to other motor vehicles.
