A red London, British built, hybrid double decker bus has just joined the transport fleet in the Capital
.
Built by Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) it has the BAE Systems hybrid electric drive train described in our October 27th 2008 news story, and was delivered to Transport for London and Metrobus at the Euro Bus 2008 Expo in Birmingham.
The first of 17 units that will that will be evaluated in passenger service starting later this year, is uses the same “HybriDrive” diesel electric technology that is already in use on more than 1,500 buses in North America.
“Our hybrid technology is the most proven in the industry, with more than 70 million miles of revenue service to date,” said Rob Lindsey, BAE Systems director of transport systems for the U.K. and Europe. “Joining with Alexander Dennis brings the combined benefits of improved fuel economy, lower production of greenhouse gases and other emissions, and reduced vehicle maintenance to the transit system and to the residents of London.”
