B&R is inviting students to participate in a pan European Ethernet competition, with some very substantial prizes.
The company is calling for innovative concepts, creative solutions, practice-oriented application suggestions and promising scientific research projects from all technical disciplines. The only requirement for proposals is the use of Powerlink technology. For an optional practical implementation, the freely available open source software openPowerlink can be used as a basis.
A jury of researchers and economic experts will assess all submitted projects and announce the award winners in mid-2009. The three main prizes will be worth 10,000, 5,000 and 2,500 Euros.
openPowerlink is an open source real-time protocol solution based on standard-compliant Ethernet, provided by Systec electronic (http://www.systec-electronic.com). It contains the Ethernet Powerlink protocol stack for the Managing Node (master) and for the Controlled Nodes (slaves). The source code has been made freely available and may be downloaded from the Internet. In addition, the open source license model (BSD license) allows unlimited adaptation and use of the software in user applications.
