Speaking at a press conference at the Arup office in London, he revealed that the new centres will tackle problems such as climate change, the energy crisis, our ageing population, crime and terrorism. These EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training represent a new approach to training scientists and engineers, not only focussing on the key challenges facing society but also equipping them with the business skills they need to turn their ideas into products and services, boosting their impact on the UK’s economy.

It is said to be the biggest ever investment in training the scientists by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
