A superfast sailing boat, the hydrofoil equipped trimaran l’Hydroptère, already holder of the world sailing boat speed record over one nautical mile, is being reconfigured with the help of Catia to beat the absolute sailing boat speed record over 500m
.
This stands at 49.09 knots, or 91 km/h, even higher than the 42.98 knots that the boat has achieved over one nautical mile. The boat is both the product of advanced design and advanced composite construction, developed in collaboration with the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.
“l’Hydroptère is a project that combines technology, performance and human adventure. Thanks to CATIA, considerable enhancements have been made to the high speed version of the trimaran increasing our chances of beating the absolute speed record by the end of this year”, said Alain Thébault, designer and skipper of the vessel. “Dassault Systèmes and Transcat PLM in Switzerland provide our design team in Lausanne with invaluable support that along with the Dassault Systèmes solutions helps us improve the boat’s performance and structural integrity.”
