The Moonbuggy all terrain railway vehicle (ATRV) is an adaptation of manned and unmanned all terrain vehicles that is specifically designed to be able to climb onto a railway track and run along it
Developed by Moonbuggy in Cumbria, it is intended as an incident response vehicle able to transport up to five people with equipment when fitted with side seats.
It is offered with a choice of 12 HP petrol, diesel or hybrid electric power and can be used to access tunnels and other remote and difficult to reach areas.
Depending on the need, it can be used to facilitate quicker repairs, evacuate casualties, assist surveying and maintenance tasks or accelerate security searches.
It has variable hydrostatic transmission to six tyred wheels and can travel at 10mph across ground or 4 mph on the railway track. Of the track, it can turn on round on its axis. A remotely operated version is available.
