New adhesive for flexible metal foil packaging 03/01/2003

For use as an adhesive in the manufacture of flexible multilayer packaging made of metallised plastic film, Lotader 4210 is a new grade of terpolymer from Atofina. It’s particularly suitable for extruded food-grade applications, helping to preserve the properties of the packaging’s contents. The new grade is a high fluidity ethylene butyl maleic anhydride terpolymer.

Lotader 4210 may be diluted in low density polyethylene (IdPe) at a rate of just 25% to provide adhesion that is long-lasting and uniform across the entire width of the foil, thus offering improved cohesion. It’s also easy to extrude and laminate in a single operation between the layers of the materials to be bonded.

The new grade also has good thermal stability at high temperature and causes no corrosion. It requires no post-treatment for the curing of the components or the elimination of residual solvent unlike the lamination technique using solvent-based adhesives.
