Polymer delivers 45% reduction in fuel uptake

Ticona has announced the availability of Fortron 6162XF, a mineral/glass-reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) with fuel resistance for customers developing applications for use in aggressive fuels.

Polymer delivers 45 reduction in fuel uptakeAccording to Ticona, the new advanced fuel resistant Fortron PPS grade has reduced fuel gain by over 45% compared to Fortron 6165A6, which has previously been used in fuel systems.

Both Fortron PPS grades are designed for applications that require components that need high dimensional stability during storage in aggressive fuels. Applications can include impellers, outlet covers and fuel injector components.

Ralf Langhammer, Ticona fuel systems market development engineer, said: "In 1000 hour exposure tests in CM15A fuel conducted at 194° Fahrenheit, Fortron 6162XF exhibited superior fuel resistance, with a weight change of less than 1%."

Ticona says Fortron PPS is versatile and typically used in fuel systems and components. It has been designed to withstand long term exposure to gasoline, diesel, bio-diesel and aggressive fuels containing such oxygenates as methanol and ethanol, as well as to natural gas and other fuels in alternative propulsion systems.
