New rivet for double flush assembly
09/03/2010 Email to a friend   Comment on this article
As electronic applications have become smaller and smaller it has become one of the challenges of fastening to create a rivet which when placed is flush on both sides that is small enough for these applications and also a fastener that can be placed fast enough to cope with the large scale production lines.

New rivet for double flush assemblyAvdel's new Double Flush Chobert Speed Fastening rivet can be placed into a hole countersunk on both sides that allows a flush finish on the front and rear sides of the application. The fastener can be placed "blind" from one side of the application even if the rear side is not accessible.

The Double Flush Chobert® rivets are threaded on to a mandrel in pods of up to 120 fasteners. The first fastener is presented by the tool and during placement the mandrel is pulled through the fastener expanding the rivet body radially to fill the hole. The mandrel is pulled out of the fastener leaving a hole in the centre of the rivet and the next fastener is presented automatically by the tool. This fastening method creates no waste material and Avdel® offers with Speed Fastening® one of the greenest range of fasteners around.

The Double Flush Chobert® was initially designed for computer chassis which required fasteners to reduce the excess space requirements. Currently the Double Flush Chobert® can fasten materials down to 2 mm thick. The fastener has been designed so that a common hole form can be used throughout the chassis design reducing complexity and stock holding needs. A one piece fastener with no mandrel held in the body ensures that there are no potential problems that could be caused by stem fall out.
