Resistant POM

A one piece injection molded component made of resistant Hostaform POM lowers production costs and withstands extreme climatic conditions, according to engineering polymer specialist, Ticona.

Resistant POMHolland Scherming, a Dutch manufacturer of greenhouse screens, uses this type of plastic from Ticona for its fastener clips.

Greenhouse applications place high demands on material so expensive metals have typically been used as materials of construction in the past. In place of a three piece metal clip, however, the Dutch manufacturer's patented fastener assembly now requires only a one piece injection molded part made of Hostaform POM C 27021 14.

Ticona says that besides lowering material costs, this also reduces the cost of assembly, while the polyoxymethylene co-polymer resists the high humidity and heat in greenhouses.
Hostaform POM C 27021 is designed for long flow paths and, according to Ticona, has proven particularly well-suited for the manufacture of complicated precision parts and thin-walled molded parts, especially molded parts with an unfavourable flow path/wall thickness ratio, and in production using multi-impression tools.

This grade of plastic is designed to permit the use of short cycle times and the combination of multiple components is said to reduce subsequent assembly costs relative to metal components.
