A patented system for valve emissions control
14/03/2004 Email to a friend   Comment on this article
Industrial control valves manufacturer Severn Glocon has developed an innovative solution for positive valve stem gland security

A patented system for valve emissions control, enabling changes in performance to be safely monitored during the service life of the valve.

Using the latest gland stem sealing technologies, the system differs from other designs by providing progressive early warning of any change in the performance of the patented live-loaded double stem packing, offering increased operational and safety benefits compared to conventional bellow seals.

The design is based on a multi-function manifold block, which, in normal operation, enables any valve stem gland leakage to be safely routed to a flare or secure storage system. Routine gland leakage monitoring is easily performed by repositioning the two ball valves on the manifold which enables the pressure of any leakage to be indicated on the integral gauge. A measure of the leak rate can be seen by the increase in indicated pressure over a set period of time, allowing any maintenance work to be accurately predicted and planned.

The monitoring system is suitable for linear and rotary motion valves of virtually any size, is CE marked and conforms to the latest Pressure Equipment and ATEX directives. DP

Pointers

* The patented monitoring system is suitable for linear or rotary valves of almost any size
* The device works by routing any leakages to a secure safe storage area
* This means the user gets progressive early warning of any change in performance of the patented live-loaded double stem packing
