The ability to supply a professionally tapped nut, matched to the thread form of the supplied leadscrew is crucial
Problem: when supplying quality linear application products. In many cases, screw stock and special nut designs are purchased from different suppliers which can often lead to poor fitting of the nut, excessive wear, backlash and low efficiency of the complete linear system. And when engineers require a more sophisticated nut design, the chances are the component is critical to the overall workings of the machine. In this case, by supplying both parts from the same source eliminates this problem. The designer can also use the experience of that company's engineers to incorporate other features into the nut design.
Solution: Worcestershire-based company Abssac has developed a special custom designed nut and lead screw assembly (pictured) for an engraving machine manufacturer. The customer required a nut design manufactured from Turcite, to incorporate a square rigid body, six locating holes of different diameters and a linear guide slot on the traversing head. The nut is tapped to traverse on an eight start high helix thread form.
Applications: Abssac supplies many bespoke designs including ones for optical mounts, cams, external threads, mounting holes, pulley grooves, tangs and linear guides. Lead screw sizes range from 4mm diameter up to 200mm with a wide range of both metric and imperial leads per diameter. Cold rolled, whirled, machined and ground styles are available in stainless steel, low carbon steel and exotic materials if required. Nuts can be manufactured from steel, bronze and aluminium bronze as standard, or from advanced engineering plastics such as Delrin, PTFE and Turcite. DP
