Dr Tony Whitehead will be joining the Institution of Engineering and Technology on 4th January 2011 as Director of Governance and Policy.
 Dr Whitehead previously held the post of Joint Head of the Science in Government Unit. He worked for the Government's Chief Scientific Adviser to ensure improved quality and use of science and engineering by Government and improve public confidence in Government use of science and engineering.
Commenting on his new appointment, Dr Whitehead said "I have always been passionate about engineering and the enormous contribution it makes to the quality life and prosperity in the UK and Overseas. Consequently I am absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to join the IET, an organisation that is clearly at the forefront of promoting the importance of engineering."
A Chartered Engineer, Dr Whitehead is also a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Fellow of the Nuclear Institute.
