A year ago, the Vote Manufacturing Campaign was established to encourage voters to petition MPs in a bid to salvage UK Manufacturing.

2011 Budget addresses UK manufacturingOne year on and Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, reiterated this message in today's Budget, saying he wanted the words 'made in Britain', 'created in Britain', 'designed in Britain' and 'invented in Britain' to drive our nation forward.

The Vote Manufacturing Campaign was created on the back of some stark warnings from industry leaders at the UK Manufacturing Summit which took place in March 2010. The summit attendees warned that by turning the nation's back on manufacturing, the entire economy was under threat. The Coalition Government responded to the petition by announcing 'essential first steps towards economic recovery' were being put in place.

Today, George Osborne promised the UK's first Technology and Innovation Centre in high value manufacturing, as well as an investment of £100million in science capital development.

"A Britain carried aloft by the march of the makers - that is how we will create jobs and support families," he said. "We have put fuel into the tank of the British economy."
