Environmental Scientifics Group (ESG) is launching a new initiative to support science in education. The environmental compliance company says the 'Science in Schools' initiative will provide a range of support services to secondary schools and sixth form colleges.
These include access to guest speakers explaining how science is used in the workplace and the career opportunities that science can offer, as well as visits to laboratories to see science in action.
Mandy Weston, business process director at ESG said: "The Successful Science report published by Ofsted in January highlighted that those who enjoyed studying science at key stage 4 were more likely to want to follow a science career. Importantly, this enjoyment often stemmed from practical investigative work along with a healthy mix of academic challenge, independent research, group work and discussion of difficult and topical scientific concepts.
"Whether schools are looking for projects to do with geology, chemistry, materials science, food science, or geography, we believe that ESG can add real value and that's why we are keen to work more closely with local schools. We would welcome approaches from the Heads of the Science and Humanities Departments, so that we can develop exciting programmes which relate directly to GCSE course work."
The initiative is open to all schools and sixth form colleges. For more information contact Sue Pointon at for more details.
