Dean Palmer reports on a new range of surface mount adhesives that enable fasteners to be mounted in normally inaccessible positions
A new range of surface mount adhesives has been launched that allows fasteners to be mounted in normally inaccessible positions and in post-manufacturing applications.
The developer of the adhesives, BigHead Bonding Fasteners, better known for developing special fasteners for insertion into plastics, has launched three versions of its 'BigBond' adhesives range, which have been specially formulated to provide high performance bonding of BigHead fasteners onto a wide range of substrates.
'High Grab' is described as a single component, high strength adhesive based on MS-Polymer. It is chemically neutral, fully elastic and is formulated as a high grab, safe to use, general purpose adhesive for use in many industries. The adhesive offers high bond strength on almost all surfaces, is free of halogens, acids, solvents and isocyanates, and is resistant to many chemicals.
'PU Fast Set' is a universal polyurethane assembly and repair adhesive, which has a fast reaction time, good gap filling properties and is free from solvents. The adhesive has high strength bonding performance on many types of wood and construction materials; plasterboard; concrete; insulations; ceramics; metals; and thermoplastics (subject to suitable surface preparation). It is D4 waterproof to EN 204 without the addition of hardener.
'FS Acrylic' is a two-part system that is fast setting when mixed via a static mix nozzle at room temperature. The adhesive is a high viscosity, non-sagging material and so is ideal for all types of gap filling on steel, aluminium, polycarbonates and general plastics. It is also good on vertical surface bonds, showing excellent structural strength even without priming the surfaces. The adhesive can achieve a lateral shear strength of 3,500 PSI. The macro structure of FS Acrylic offers excellent durability, high peel strength (even in large gaps) and good solvent and environmental resistance.
Each of the surface mount adhesives is supplied in a tube with a set of pre-cut spreader discs, to enable users to shape sur
