A potentially faulty water pump is causing some 30,000 Oxford-manufactured Mini Coopers to be recalled in the UK over fears they might catch fire.
 BMW has revealed that 235,000 cars across the world are to be recalled over worries that water pumps could overheat.
The recall decision was made after BMW received a number of complaints from Mini owners reporting problems with their cars while they were left parked or while they had been sitting at the wheel.
Seven cases have been reported in the UK and 12 in the USA. A spokesman for the German car maker said owners would receive a recall notice within a few weeks.
Commenting on the suspected cooling system fault, BMW said: "In more extreme cases it could create a heat build-up in the wiring and some smouldering. Potentially it could cause a fire. We are not aware of any accidents or injuries connected with this. The important thing is that when people receive the letter they simply go to their dealer and get a new water pump fitted."
