The importance of selling

I've just spent the last two hours trawling YouTube to find a video for this month's newsletter. I searched a lot, and indeed watched some very cool materials and technologies being tried and tested, discussed and debated. The problem was they were nearly all American.

Being American is in itself not the problem of course. The problem is the UK. We are not selling ourselves nearly as well. We are so much more guarded and often don't feel the need – or desire - to talk ourselves up in the same manner. We have so much innovation and ingenuity in this country, but sometimes you really have to dig to find it. Why?

The engineering industry has had a bit of a facelift in recent years and is making good steps forward to reach the mainstream. We need to build on this and perhaps take some of the enthusiasm our US cousins are famous for when talking about what it is engineers do exactly.

Do I expect you to grab your camera and start recording? No, but maybe you should at least think about it and perhaps other innovative ways to engage with potential customers here and abroad.
