Clean energy technologies to be showcased at DTI

The Centre for Sustainable Engineering has announced a Clean Energy Investment Showcase to be held on Thursday November 23rd 2006 at the DTI Conference Centre in London.

The promoters argue that market factors affecting clean energy technologies are now for the first time, aligned to enable breakthroughs in £ and carbon terms. These include: increasing legislation and incentives, and strong demand for energy and materials such that there is expected to be a global shortfall of centrally generated power of 1000GW (20 per cent) forecast for 2016. Increases and volatility in the price of oil, coal and gas mean that economics for cleaner technologies have improved and large companies are now investing heavily in sustainable technologies to reduce production costs and waste. At the same time, the cost of power from photovoltaics has come down from $30 to $3 per watt over the last 30 years and wind generated power has improved in efficiency by 30 to 45% over the last 15 years. However, as an emerging sector, it does not possess a long track record of successful entrepreneurs or market leading investors, so the connection between innovators and capital is weak. The Showcase intends to bridge this gap and showcase leading candidates with high growth potential to an audience of equity and corporate investors. The event is to include companies in need of early stage, growth and expansion capital.
