A new, free guide for installing power drive systems has just been published by Gambica (the UK's Automation, Instrumentation and Control, and Laboratory technology Trade Association) to help companies overcome some of the problems associated with the installation of industrial variable speed drives. While the drives themselves have become easier to fit over recent years, the applications in which they are installed continue to present specific requirements. The guide helps engineers unravel these often very complex issues. The 40-page guide is split into 10 sections and includes help on various topics including basic specification, safe mechanical and electrical installation and EMC-related issues. It covers motors and inverters installed with separate cabling systems, but it is not wholly applicable to motors with integrated inverters. The guide also includes a glossary of terms, European directives and principle associated standards. The guide is suitable for those unfamiliar with power drive systems as well as experienced engineers that need an easy-to-read, fast and accurate information guide.DP
