Plain bearing meets fire safety standards

igus UK has introduced a new low cost plain bearing that is fire retardant and classified according to stringent UL94 regulations.

The iglidur GV0 module is designed to offer high load capacity at low to medium sliding velocities and excellent wear resistance on different shaft materials. According to igus, the material is ideal for use in areas with stringent fire protection regulations, including aircraft, automobile and rail vehicle interiors, as well as building technology with elevators, escalators and similar applications.

The bearing has been developed with strong physical and thermal properties. It has an upper long term application temperature of 130ºC and an upper short term application temperature of 210ºC. It has a density rated at 1.53g/cm3 and is lightweight, with high abrasion resistance to provide a reliable, long service life.

"UL94 is the recognised standard for safety of flammability of plastic materials for parts in devices and appliances testing and we are delighted that our iglidur GV0 material meets the regulations," said Matthew Aldridge, director at igus UK. "The new material represents a significant breakthrough in both flammability performance and affordability."
