Corrosion resistant magnetostrictive sensors

Written by: Tom Austin-Morgan | Published:

MTS Sensors has expanded its GB-Series of programmable magnetostriction-based linear position sensors. The latest additions to the GB-Series - the GB-N family – feature a robust 1.4404 stainless steel sensor rod and housing for the supporting electronics, allowing their deployment in environments where there are corrosive media present.

Supporting stroke lengths from 25mm to 3.25m, they deliver up to 1µm resolution, ±0.005% repeatability and ±0.02% linearity. These sensors are available with either analogue or synchronous serial interface output options for maximum implementation flexibility. Their operational temperature range spans from -40 to 90 °C and have IP67-rated protection against water/dust ingress when supplied with an M12 or M16 connector. Alternatively IP68-rated protection is provided for cable outlet versions.

The devices are suited for use in the food/beverage manufacturing, pharmaceutical production and chemical processing, as well as bulk storage and transportation industries.

MTS’ Temposonics technology is claimed to enable long term precision position measurement even when deployed in aggressive environments. Devices based on this sensing mechanism are said to be able to deal with vibrations, shock, high humidity levels, elevated temperature and strong pressures effectively.
