Based in Guernsey, Design Village is an engineering company specialising in research and development. Providing a fast efficient design and custom manufacturing service, its main expertise is in medical diagnostics. Customers include Stratec Biomedical Systems, Enfer Scientific Ltd and Osteo-Ti Ltd. As the largest Autodesk training provider in the UK, Midas Technology's staff had the right engineering background to assist. Training for Autodesk Vault Professional in 2007 had already helped bring in tighter revision control. Through a tailored training course for Autodesk Inventor, two staff were shown the best way to tackle the project. Autodesk's intuitive design tools have helped with other demanding projects including dental implants for Osteo-Ti Ltd. Originally designed in 2D, the implant system has been since moved to 3D. Another project has been Enfer Scientific Ltd's cell sample homogeniser. And during a work experience week, a 15-year old schoolboy easily designed a sprocket guard in Autodesk Inventor for his BMX bike. The use of this powerful 3D technology has cut the design time by around half compared to conventional 2D working. Rendered 3D designs are produced for customer approval which avoids the need to make physical mock-ups or prototypes. High-quality manufacturing drawings and bills of materials are easily output and all design changes tightly managed. The company now plans to use Autodesk Inventor's cable and harness design facilities for instrument wiring looms.
