Combined linear and rotary motion provides single drive solution for multi assembly operations.

Assembly operations often require a number of components to be positioned accurately before the assembly operation can take place. Designers looking to cut down on the number of drives and linear systems to achieve this are turning to the PRT2 system from HepcoMotion. This one drive solution takes away the need for additional mechanical components and simplifies the whole design process.

One drive simplicity A PRT2 ring and track will provide guidance for a number of carriages around a track. The carriages will, in many, cases hold a fixture that can be indexed relative to an external assembly station or pick and place device. The linked carriages are driven through a timing belt via a single driving pulley, no other drive is required to position the carriages. Complete flexibility The flexibility of being able to use one drive and make the track size to suit the available space provides far more options when it comes to designing the track shape. Typically track systems are oval shaped but open ended or rectangular shaped systems can be constructed to fit space requirements. PRT2 is effectively a kit of parts, track slides, end segments and assembled carriages that are built into the machine. All track components are accurately matched to ensure smooth running around the complete circuit. Carriage mounting platform Fitting fixtures to the moving carriages is made easier with the larger mounting platform that all Vee guide technology carriage plates offer. Fixtures often need to overhang the carriage applying offset loads. Where space is at a premium increased capacity can be gained by the use of HepcoMotion moment load carriages. PRT2 – more than just track systems The PRT2 range also includes rings with a gear drive option that offer a simple alternative to slewing rings. Availability of rings is up to 1.5 metres in single vee edge or double edge format. PRT2 is also available in stainless steel across the whole range making its use in the medical and food industry the default choice for many designers.
