An example of this is a simple wear pad. Commonly found on various pieces of machinery and equipment. Traditionally made from steel the wear pad works in its application, with baggage. The steel pad is heavy, prone to rust and corrosion and in need of regular replacement and maintenance.

Now take a Nylacast wear pad and the materials technology allows it to perform the same task with corrosion resistance, no need for maintenance, painting or protection. It is self-coloured and 1/7th the weight of the steel pad. Multiply this weight saving by the number of clamps installed and there is a significant reduction in overall machine weight. This can help increase fuel efficiency and performance.
