Position switch for Ex zones 1 and 21

Written by: Tom Austin-Morgan | Published:

Extreme, the business division of steute, has unveiled its Ex HS 98 position switch for use in explosive environments.

Unlike other position switches in steute's range, the Ex HS 98 does not work with conventional 'on-off' technology. Instead, it emits an analogue signal which corresponds to the position of the actuator or plunger. The position is registered by an integrated Hall sensor which produces the output signal in one of the three prevailing standards 0 to 20mA, 4 to 20mA or 0 to 10 V, depending on the variant.

In accordance with its ATEX/ IECEx approval, the explosion-proof variant of the HS 98 is suitable for use in gas Ex zones 1 and 2, as well as dust Ex zones 21 and 22. The Ex HS 98 is suited to the position monitoring of flaps, valves and other control elements installed in explosive environments.

The Extreme position switch 98 series features a robust metal housing, high protection classes and standardised dimensions in accordance with DIN EN 50041.
