We invest 5% of our turnover in R&D leading to 50% of our sales being from products developed in the previous 5 years. Over 250 people are employed in tesa's laboratories filing an average of 70 patents a year.
Customers in many diverse markets are increasingly requiring flexible and customised self adhesive tape solutions as they offer many advantages over glues and liquid adhesives. For example, there is no need to allow for curing before the next production stage and by carefully selecting the most appropriate tape, there is no risk of adhesive oozing from joints which could potentially lead to assembly stoppages. For many applications the tape can be converted into a format more compatible with the component part(s) to which it is being applied. tesa works closely with its own converting facility in Hamburg and expert local UK converters to supply die-cut tape to your specification.
The solar industry has very quickly recognised and makes full use of these features and benefits. For the permanent mounting of junction boxes a double sided foam tape is preferred as the foam carrier is able to compensate for the characteristics of the surfaces being bonded. Once the solar panel has been installed it is also able to compensate for any different rates of thermal expansion and contraction which are likely to be encountered. A further benefit is a high immediate and long term adhesion to many different substrates including Tedlar®. Also excellent UV and water resistance and the ability to present the tape in a die-cut shape, exactly the same size as the junction box, contribute to ease and speed of application. It is easy to see why tesa double sided tape is preferred. TÜV and UL 1703 certification also confirms the suitability of our double sided foam tapes for solar panel construction.
