Anti-graffiti film developed for rail industry

The technology consists of two overlaminates; a high gloss version that helps enhance and maintain exterior train branding and a matte version that helps reduce reflections in train interiors. "Vandalism and graffiti remain a big issue for train operators and they are often fined for graffiti marked carriages," said Lucy Anderson, marketing coordinator, 3M's Commercial Graphics division. "In response to this, 3M has announced two new flexible surface protection films that offer the required level of anti-graffiti properties and abrasion resistance." The high gloss overlaminate utilises 3M's Scotchgard Graphic and Surface Protection Film 8993 and is available in 48, 54 and 60in widths by 50m. According to the Bracknell based company, this allows for wider graphic panels to be printed, helping to reduce material wastage, increase roll efficiency and lower production costs. The Scotchgard Graphic and Surface Protection Film 8995-124 is a metallic anti-graffiti overlaminate that offers a low reflective, matte finish product for interior train carriages. Both polyester films are said to be highly durable and are designed to withstand the harsh solvents that are needed to remove graffiti.
