The National Metals Technology Centre (Namtec) is looking to help manufacturers access awards of up to £5,000 for the development of ‘Smart’ materials – which sense and adapt to stimuli in the environment. It is part of a consortium promoting the investment into research & development for these type of materials, surfaces and structures. Iain Fielden, technical specialist at Namtec, said: “This is a major area of materials development and there is funding available to stimulate wealth creation and economic growth relating to smart materials.” At the same time, Namtec has appointed Stephen Court as chief technology officer. His responsibilities will include the leadership of Namtec’ technical staff and ensuring the organisation delivers high quality technical services.
