As the most significant element of the project, a completely new transformer manufacturing plant will be built in Tápiószele, Hungary by the end of 2026. The most important goal of the development programme, which will be implemented in stages, is to enable the company to respond more flexibly to market demands by expanding its production capacity and thus further strengthen its position among European energy manufacturing companies.
Expanding Transformer Production Capacity to Meet Market Demands
In response to market demands, Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines Ltd. launched the GANZ 2030 development programme in the spring of 2025. As a result of the investment series worth around EUR 52 million, the Hungarian manufacturing company will be able to respond more quickly and efficiently to orders arising from the growing demand for electricity due to the increasing electrification worldwide, while significantly strengthening its position among European energy producers. Preparations are already underway in its manufacturing base in Tápiószele, Hungary, with planning and permitting tasks and preparatory work for larger-scale construction currently underway.
New Transformer Factory and Facility Upgrades for Enhanced Manufacturing
The most significant element of the project will be the construction of a new transformer manufacturing plant by the end of 2026, with a floor area of nearly 6,500 square metres. In addition, the development will include an increase in storage capacity, renewed and more efficient material handling and the growth in the transformers test hall’s capacity, as well as a new directly connected warehouse for the logistics of raw materials. In addition, the refurbishment of old transformers will move to a larger building with a floor area of around 600 square metres by 2027, allowing the production of new machines to replace the old ones, thus supporting Ganz's sustainability efforts. Overall, the investment programme will enable Ganz to cover the entire product life cycle more efficiently, from the first winding to the last test, significantly reducing the time to market.
Sustainability Initiatives and Facility Development
With sustainability in mind, Ganz Transformers will take advantage of the opportunities offered by its two existing factory buildings to develop an insulation factory. The company will also benefit from the availability of additional free space to carry out the development, allowing existing production activities to continue uninterrupted during the implementation of the investment programme, which will take around 5 years.
Strategic Vision and Workforce Expansion in Tápiószele
"This development is key to our long-term business objectives, and the availability of space for expansion in Tápiószele gives us a significant advantage over other manufacturing sites. Our goal is to create a manufacturing hub by the end of the decade that can effectively support the growing role of renewable energy and the advance of electrification on the manufacturing side." - said Gergely Gál, Managing Director of Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines Ltd.
The implementation of the GANZ 2030 programme will also involve a significant increase in the company's workforce, with at least 200 new employees planned by the end of the decade. In Tápiószele, not only will the production facilities be renovated, but the supporting facilities will also be modernised, including the office buildings and the car park. Ganz has already started recruiting new staff, which the company is supporting with the launch of the Ganz Training Centre. The knowledge centre, which is unique in Hungary and is linked to transformer and electrical rotating machine manufacturing, will provide participants with a structured, intensive programme to prepare new recruits for their involvement in Ganz's manufacturing processes.
Previous Technology Investment to Enhance Manufacturing Efficiency
This is not the first large-scale development programme for Ganz Transformers. At the beginning of 2024, the company launched a EUR 12 million investment in technology development at its rotating machine plant. By acquiring new equipment and upgrading existing equipment, the company aims to make its production processes more efficient to meet the ever-growing demand in Hungary and internationally. Thanks to these improvements, the company, which has a history of almost 150 years, is able to become one of the most highly ranked transformer and rotating machine manufacturers in Hungary and internationally, relying on continuous innovation.
