IMechE launches search for UK’s top manufacturers

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) is on the lookout for the UK's best manufacturers as it launches Manufacturing Excellence 2012.

"If we want to see the UK economy thrive once again, we need to see a resurgence in UK manufacturing," said Philippa Oldham, head of manufacturing at the IMechE. "Manufacturing Excellence not only identifies and celebrates outstanding UK manufacturing businesses but can also help underperforming companies improve. "We're calling for businesses to apply and take advantage of the programme. Entry is free and there is up to £20,000 free consultancy advice up for grabs as well as the chance to win at the prestigious Manufacturing Excellence Awards in November." The aim of the competition, according to Oldham, is to help improve manufacturing businesses' processes and showcase their successes and innovations. "Past winners have shown that by taking part and adopting best practice they can thrive, grow and become global players," she continued. Last year's winners included mechanical seals manufacturer AESSEAL, transit packaging manufacturer Loadhog, train manufacturer Bombardier and Agfa Graphics.
