Innovation award presented to Siemens Magnet Technology

Superconducting magnets for use within magnetic resonance imaging and designed by Siemens Magnet Technology have won the Autodesk Award for Product Innovation at this year's Manufacturing Excellence Awards.

The awards, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, celebrates UK manufacturing success. Over 30% of all MRI scanners in hospitals and clinics worldwide contain a magnet designed and manufactured at the company in Oxfordshire. There are currently more than 13,000 of its MRI magnets in use in over 100 countries. Craig Marshall, managing director at Siemens Magnet Technology said: "We are absolutely delighted to have won an MX award. It is an honour to be competing amongst such prestigious companies. As an engineer, I understand the passion with which we pursue engineering excellence in this business and I am glad we made a positive impression on the judges." The 2010 Manufacturing Excellence Award was presented to Leyland Trucks of Preston for the second year in a row. Leyland will pick up the Award by Business and Enterprise Minister Mark Prisk.
