McNamara joins Williams Advanced Engineering

Williams Advanced Engineering, the engineering services and technology division of the Williams Group that includes the Williams Martini Racing Formula One team, has announced the appointment of Paul McNamara as technical director.

He will be responsible for overseeing the overall technical management and delivery of the company's expanding range of projects in the automotive, motorsport, energy, defence and civil aerospace sectors.

Before joining Williams, McNamar worked as an executive director at Shanghai Automotive Industries, based at their Technical Centre in the UK, but working for much of the time in the Chinese operation as part of a team to set future product direction. Before that, he worked for more than 20 years at Ricardo, during which time he was the UK engineering director for five years and managing director of the UK divisions for a further five years. During his time at Ricardo he directed major projects for key customers such as Ford, Volvo, Hyundai and McLaren.

Established in 2010, Williams Advanced Engineering specialises in high performance energy-efficient products and services with a particular focus on advanced lightweight materials, hybrid power systems and electronics, aerodynamics and thermodynamics, dynamics, and holistic integration capabilities. The company's projects include working with Formula E to develop batteries for the world's first fully electric racing series, collaborating with Nissan on its Nismo range of products, and a partnership with Hanergy to bring Formula One derived energy storage technologies to its solar energy products.
