Robotic work station could improve the way we work

San Francisco-based research company, Altwork has developed an office work station that is designed to improve the comfort and therefore the productivity of office workers. The Altwork Station is a robotic work station that comprises an articulated chair, a desk and a computer monitor bracket. There's also a side table for a cup of coffee.

The Altwork Station is designed for high intensity computer users that spend at least four hours a day in front of their personal computer and are required to focus on complex tasks for extended periods of time such as developing software and producing computer automated design work.

The Altwork Station is designed to transform itself into different positions to help keep you alert and comfortable. It can go from being a standing desk right down to a setting that has the user almost horizontal.

Magnets are used to keep the keyboard and mouse in place, and the bracket is claimed to be able to support a monitor, or monitors that weigh up to 16kg.

The Altwork Station is expected to be shipped in the US in mid-2016 and to the rest of the world by the end of 2016, but ordering now will save up to £1300 off the list price of £4000. It is by no means cheap, but Altwork’s co-founder Che Voight says that the price is in-line with most high-end office furniture.
