Semta backs Apprenticeship Week

Semta, the sector skills council for science, engineering and manufacturing, is inviting manufacturing and engineering employers from across the country to join them at their launch event for Apprenticeship Week (6-10 February).

The event, which aims to tackle the UK's growing skills gap, will take place on 6 February at the BIS Conference Centre in London, to demonstrate the importance of apprenticeships in supporting economic growth and rebalancing the economy. Key speakers include Sir Roy Gardner, chairman of Compass Group and AAN; John Hayes, Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning; Nigel Whitehead, group managing director of programmes and support at BAE Systems; and Semta's chief executive, Philip Whiteman (pictured). There will also be an Apprenticeships Surgery where employers can seek individual advice and guidance from Semta's skills experts. Employers interested in attending the event can register their interest now by emailing customerservices@semta.org.uk.
