Zircotec to demonstrate novel coating process at Autosport International

Zircotec's managing director, Terry Graham said: "Zircotec's technology relies on a modified plasma system operating under highly controlled conditions. The nature of our process and the sensitivity of much of the work we do means it is not possible to show our customers all the elements. "As coatings become increasingly recognised as robust solutions in a number of harsh environments such as motorsport, we felt that the show visitors would appreciate the opportunity to see some of what we do." Filmed at At Zircotec's Abingdon facility in Oxfordshire, the video shows a plasma jet being produced by arcing in a plasma gas, creating temperatures in excess of 14,000°C. The coating material is then injected into the plasma stream where it melts and is propelled towards the work piece at around twice the speed of sound. When this material hits the relatively cold substrate it solidifies and in effect welds itself in place.
