3D Printing and Customised Manufacturing Conference

Taking place on 4 May 2011 at Shoreditch Studios, 37 Batemans Row, EC2A 3HH.

Thingmakers has announced the first 3D printing and Customised Manufacturing Conference. From desktop 3d printers for individual use to commercial machines for industrial production, the world of 3d printing is developing fast. It is now possible to print in 3d from a digital design, to lasercut from 2d designs, to scan 3d objects and to assemble the results into beautiful products. 'Distributed factories' provide access to technology through the web. Desktop printers and cutters bring output to our workshops. To provide an introduction to the subject, Thingmakers has assembled a line up of talent to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of play in 3d printing and customized manufacturing. Thingmakers will have demonstrations and exhibits from the key manufacturers and developers. This is a unique opportunity to hear about what is possible now and what the near future holds for what Business Insider called the next trillion dollar industry. The first Thingmakers event brings together the machines, designers, software and services that allow anyone to output real objects from their computers. Confirmed speakers and exhibitors from Makerbot; Stratasys; Ultimaker; RazorLAB; FabCamp plus designers, artists and researchers. For more information and to register go to: http://www.thingmakers.org Hands on Demonstrations and Exhibits Thingmakers will present a range of 3D printers and laser cutters with the opportunity to see how these machines work and to submit your own designs for output. Key experts from the industry will be on hand to discuss, what technologies are available? Who is doing what? How do we make best use of these tools? What are the business cases? Who is making a success of this and where is it all going? Who should attend? Arts, Architecture, Model Makers, Prototypers, Medical, Tooling, Aerospace, Automotive, Consumer goods, Robotics, Crafts, Fashion, Jewellery, Furniture and Toys. Thingmakers Conference Director Thingmakers is the brainchild of Ivan Pope, who has been innovating in the online space since the early days of the internet. After launching .net magazine in 1994 he went on to found one of the first web design companies, Webmedia, and then to kickstart the domain name industries with NetNames. He invented the cyber cafe in 1994 and was involved in the early days of the Internet World conference in the UK. "3D printing is a place where the digital and analog worlds come together in perfect harmony. Customised manufacturing is going to change our world over the next decade as much as the internet did in the nineties," said Pope. "Thingmakers will provide a platform for this fast growing industry."
