Melting ice shoes make summer skating

Brit Leissler, who recently graduated from London’s Royal College of Art, has come up with idea of moulding ice skate soles for shoes

, which will allow skating in summer – and also offers a very good way of easing the movement of heavy objects. She said: “My brief was to create a self-destructing object. I liked the idea of being able to skate in the park in the summer, so I came up with the idea of filling moulds with water and putting them in the freezer to form the soles of shoes.” They last for about 40 minutes and, since melting ice has very low friction, gives a very slippery ride. The ‘ice soles’ can be re-created by putting them back in the freezer.
