Promising innovation

Many of the UK's best innovators will once again be converging on Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2011, which returns to FIVE, Farnborough on February 16th and 17th.

Hilltop Insulation Sleeving Products will showcase several new products, including a unique cable tidy with applicator, new heat shrink products, self amalgamating tapes & copper braid products The ISO: 9001:2000-accredited specialist supplier offers a wide range of insulation sleeving and heat shrink tubing for commercial and industrial applications. It also acts as a one stop shop for all electrical insulation, cable protection and cable identification products. www.hilltop-products.co.uk Adhesive tape systems manufacturer Lohmann Technologies (UK) Ltd will be taking part in Southern Manufacturing 2011, where it will feature its range of double-sided tape solutions. The company specialises in providing tailored solutions and encourages partnership involvement at the conceptual stage of any requirement. Stand H55 www.lohmann-tapes.co.uk The new high-capacity line portable memory tokens from Nexus GB allow embedded system designers to incorporate memory devices into their designs without the shortcomings normally associated with consumer-focused devices. They differ from SD cards and USB flash drives in three important ways. The memory tokens' unique form-factor means that it can't plug into an unadapted PC or system. This protects the data on the token. The form-factor also prevents consumer devices from plugging into the OEM system which reduces the opportunities for unauthorised access. www.nexusgb.co.uk By utilising state of the art CAM software, Southern Manufacturing exhibitor Innova Design and Build claims that it can match the benefits of rapid prototyping, yet still be able to supply parts manufactured from the final production material rather than some intermediate step. http://www.innovadesign.co.uk For electronics and control systems exposed to the most demanding environmental conditions, Southern Manufacturing exhibitor DEM Manufacturing has designed a series of aluminium enclosures that can withstand prolonged immersion in water. Units conform to IP 68, the highest grade of protection defined in the standard. http://www.dem-uk.com Visitors to Southern Manufacturing 2011 will be able to gain expert advice on protecting intellectual property (IP) rights, brand or product design from exhibitor RGC Jenkins, a firm of UK and European patent and trademark attorneys and certified patent, trademark and design litigators. http://www.jenkins.eu Eurocircuits will use Southern Electronics 2011 to launch two new machines intended for prototype and small batch PCB production. Together they open the door to high quality soldering of surface-mount assemblies without the need for any major investment. The first machine is for fast solder paste printing and uses Eurocircuits' low cost laser-cut stainless stencils. Magnetic location, combined with supports, makes it possible to print on the second side of a board that already carries components. The second is a reflow soldering machine. http://www.eurocircuits.com/ AT ETA Circuit Breakers can be found the world's largest selection of off-the-shelf circuit breakers. And, if even there you can't find exactly what you want, bespoke systems can be designed and manufactured. Standard unit range in size from units to protect sensitive electronic equipment to major units built into power distribution grids. Linear technology specialist igus will be unveiling a completely new design of hybrid linear bearings that both roll and slide. The innovative design reduces driving force considerably and is particularly suited to applications that combine sliding and rolling. Stand E18 www.igus.co.uk A new range of connectors for use in Zone 2 and Zone 22 hazardous environments will be featured by Bulgin Components at Southern Manufacturing. These are manufactured from a tough grade polycarbonate material environmentally sealed to IP 68, providing protection from the most severe dust and waterborne conditions. Stand D37 www.bulgin.co.uk Controlled Speed will be featuring the first ever fully dimmable LED lighting driver at Southern Manufacturing. Previously, the technology behind LED lighting had only allowed flicker-free dimming to 10%, which precluded the LED solution from many applications. This technology was taken from concept to delivery in an impressive three months.and has been conceived as part of a drive to develop energy efficient lighting. Stand D1 www.controlledspeed.co.ukwww.controlledspeed.co.uk Harting develops and manufactures electrical and electronic connectors, device terminations, network components as well as cable harnesses for networks or machinery, or for power and data application in factories. The products are used in mechanical and plant engineering, factory automation, power generation and distribution as well as industrial electronics and telecommunication. E A O is a manufacturer of switches, keypads and custom built control panels. Among its new products for 2011 are CAN-bus keypads for vehicle and engine monitoring systems. This includes a new micro display sealed to 1P67. It is ideal for use as a virtual gauge, a vehicle diagnostics display or a service indicator. Also new are 25.5 mm diameter back-lit stop switches. The latest robot from Fanuc Robotics will be showcased at Southern Manufacturing. Designed for high productivity, the 10Kg capacity arm will manipulate heavier torches and sensor systems at 'best in class' tool centre point speeds (TCP) of 4.21m/sec. Further increasing productivity, the arm has the ability to flip on joint three helping to maximise the robot's work envelope when inverted. Stand K30 www.fanucrobotics.co.uk Reflecting the rapid expansion of plastic composites into many new fields, Lee Springs will be unveiling its latest range of composite springs, which offers up to 30% increase in load at solid height. This is attributed to advances in manufacturing techniques. The composite springs add many new possibilities to the mix. Using a combination of products of its own design and manufacture plus others for whom it acts as distributor, LG Motion can produce bespoke systems for automation and motion control. Pride of place on the stand will be a range of very competitively-priced moving coil linear slide actuators, which give unprecedented programmable control of speed, position, and force, solving many widespread problems found in a variety of industries. www.lg-motion.co.uk Tharsus specialises in the manufacture of electro-mechanical products that are large, challenging to make and involve unpredictable volume requirements. The company will be at Southern Manufacturing 2011 to discuss all the latest developments in its core areas of competence, which are built around mechanical structures, mechanisms and integrating systems. Stand C48 www.tharsus.co.uk At Southern Manufacturing 2011, Salisbury-based Plastic Technology Service Ltd will be showing some of the very latest materials. According to the manufacturer, Vyntec carbon fibre reinforced polymers are the next step in composite, establishing a new generation of material which it claims will outperform metal and speciality engineering thermoplastics. www.ptsuk.com Yamazaki Mazak is to showcase its new Integrex j series multi-tasking machine at Southern Manufacturing 2011. The machine can reduce a two-machine process down to one machine, with consequent reductions in the number of operators required and the amount of programming involved. www.mazak.eu Complete drive solutions based on a sophisticated modular system and an extensive product range of standardised components. That's the philosophy behind the success of Dunkermotoren, who will be showcasing its range of motors, gears and modular accessories at Southern Manufacturing 2011. The company has added to both its brush-type motor portfolio. The new GR 23 is a powerful, but compact brush-type DC motor – of particular interest to manufacturers of window automation and sun protection systems. Stand G30 www.dunkermotoren.com Entech will be demonstrating the SPZ Metal Moulding process at the 2011 show. SPZ stands for Super Plastic Zinc, which is currently used to produce components from 30 to 600mm square with material thickness from 0.8 to 3.0mm. The finished components often look similar to a pressing, but only the female side of the die-set is required. www.entechltd.com
