Five gateways bring Modbus, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET together

ProSoft Technology is helping designers connect PROFINET controllers and Modbus or EtherNet/IP devices with five new gateways. PROFINET is used in high-speed applications, including robotics and stamping, bottling, high-speed conveying and paper press.

The range consists of PROFINET Device to Modbus Serial Gateway which offers bi-directional data transfer between Modbus devices across serial networks. The Modbus TCP/IP Two-Port to PROFINET Device Gateway’s dual Ethernet ports allow data to pass between devices on different subnets. The Modbus Serial to PROFINET Device Gateway connects to a single network, and the Modbus TCP/IP to PROFINET Device Gateway can communicate with devices that are on different subnets.

These gateways join ProSoft’s PLX30 range of gateways, which also includes the EtherNet/IP to PROFINET Device Gateway. This gateway can be used in applications, including those involving PLC-to-PLC interlocking, a SCADA interface or data concentration. The EtherNet/IP driver supports multiple I/O connections and is claimed to offer fast, consistent data delivery and the ability to prioritise data transfers by setting different update rates for control and diagnostic data.

The gateways are available as masters or slaves and support up to 100 commands. The gateways can be used in temperatures ranging from -25 to 70°C.
