Boston Dynamics robot gets knocked down and then gets up again

Google owned robotics firm, Boston Dynamics, has unveiled the latest generation of its Atlas robot, a 6ft 9in, 180lb humanoid that is designed to not only navigate hard to traverse environments, but also withstand all manner of bullying and still achieve its task.

In a video released by Boston Dynamics, researchers are shown pushing, kicking and teasing the robot. Despite the distractions, Atlas continues with its task of picking up and moving boxes.

In one instance, a member of the Boston Dynamics team pushes Atlas over, face first on to the floor. After a moment, the robot pushes its arms out and jolts itself upright, before getting back on its feet and continuing to walk.

"It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated," the company explained. "It uses sensors in its body and legs to balance and LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, assess the terrain and help with navigation."

Other demonstrations shown in the video include Atlas walking in the snow and righting itself whenever it encounters difficult terrain, picking and placing boxes and using doors to exit rooms.
