EOS has metal materials for AM applications

German manufacturer EOS has introduced two new materials for 3D printing applications – the titanium Ti64ELI and the EOS StainlessSteel 316L.

The titanium Ti64ELI material is biocompatible and offers high purity. It can be processed in an EOSINT M 280 (400W) metal laser-sintering system and exhibits high detail resolution as well as corrosion resistance. Parts built from Ti64ELI have a chemical composition and mechanical properties that meet the ASTM F136 standard specification for wrought annealed Ti64ELI alloy used in the manufacture of surgical implants. Parts built from EOS StainlessSteel 316L alloy also have a chemical composition corresponding to ASTM F138, the standard specification for wrought 18Cr-14Ni-2.5Mo stainless steel bar and wire for producing surgical implants (UNS S31673). In the medical industry, this alloy is particularly suitable for manufacturing surgical instruments and for applications in endoscopic surgery and orthopaedics, as well as for implants. Optimised specifically for processing in the EOSINT M 280, the material shows good corrosion resistance and high ductility. In the aerospace industry, EOS says it can be used for the manufacture of clamping elements and heat exchangers. Parts can be mechanically post-processed and polished.
