Ideas for plastics could win 20,000 euros

BASF invites you to send in ideas for an international competition for plastics

BASF is inviting specialists and interested amateurs to enter a competition for new plastics, applications from plastics or processes for producing plastics at K 2004, the world’s biggest plastics fair. In line with the motto “Tell us your dreams”, prizes will be awarded for ideas that show the enormous range of plastics. Thomas Fritzsche, sales and distribution manager for technical plastics in electrical and electronic applications at BASF, who is mentor of the competition, explains: “Plastics are so versatile in form, processing properties and application that even unusual ideas can be put into practice. The competition is therefore not just aimed at all those who work with plastics: Anyone who has a good idea with regard to the issue of plastics is called upon to submit their ideas.” Which innovative plastic product do you wish to see? With which other materials can plastics be combined and how? Where could plastic make a decisive contribution to the design? Which alternative processing procedures could you imagine for plastics? Which properties should your dream plastic have? How could it be possible to produce plastics cheaper or more efficiently? What has always annoyed you about plastics – and what could be done about it? These are just some of the many questions, that you can ask yourself: There should be no limits to the ideas in this competition. You can win vouchers with a total value of 20,000 Euro. The winners will be chosen by a jury consisting of executives of the plastics department of BASF. Entry cards are available at the trade fair stand of BASF at the K 2004 in Düsseldorf (Hall 5, Stand B21) and on the Internet under www.basf.de/plasticdreams. Closing date for entries is 30 November 2004. TS Click for competition web site
