Low cost blended carbon fibre yarns and fabrics
UK project, Fibrecycle, has developed a new generation of high performance, low cost co-mingled carbon fibre yarns and fabrics.
The yarns and fabrics use carbon fibre recovered from the manufacturing process of other composites structures that would otherwise go to landfill, and blend these with PET.
The resulting material has almost 100% of the stiffness of virgin materials, but can be offered at a significantly lower cost, which, it is hoped, will make it much more suitable for many other applications.
